From myself and all the staff here at Saint Matthew and Blessed Sacrament, we wish you and yours a most joyous celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection. I know that the joy of Easter does not make all the problems of our world go away. There is still an ungodly war going on in Ukraine, the streets of Baltimore are still far too violent, discrimination and racism still rear their ugly heads and remain hidden in our institutions, our environment is in crisis, and the dignity of human life is still attacked. We still have our own personal struggles with addiction, family issues, finances, health problems, etc. Our churches still struggle with attendance, facility maintenance, and reaching out to our youth and young adults. We still need more vocations. We sometimes forget that the problems and struggles of the Disciples that did not magically disappear when the empty tomb was discovered, and they saw the Risen Lord Jesus. They were still a handful of folks under Roman oppression and ostracized by their religious leaders. They still were wrestling with their failures and weaknesses. Yet, the biggest thing that changed is they had renewed faith, hope, inspiration, and peace. Throughout these upcoming fifty days of the Easter Season leading up to the glorious Feast of Pentecost, let us pray for a new outpouring of faith, hope, and love. Let us not be cowered or daunted by fear, but instead be inspired to be courageous and creative! He is Risen and hope springs eternal! God bless you all and Happy Easter!
Sincerely yours in the Risen Lord Jesus,
Fr. Matt
