October 3, 2021: Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear friends,

It is now October; can you believe it? You might want to buckle your seatbelts because there is a lot going on this month! Our Family Faith Fridays for religious education started last Friday and we are hoping more families might like to participate. Our Faith Formation program this year is family and home based and we gather every first Friday of the month to pray together and support each other in our duty to pass on the faith and grow together in faith as a family. If you would like to sign up, please give the parish office a call. This weekend is the end of our “Season of Creation”, and I would like to thank everyone who made this special focus on the environment possible. I am so glad Carlos was able to speak with us last weekend about his efforts to start citywide composting and eliminating waste. Thank you also to Patty for the music and the intercessions every week and Judy for the wonderful displays in front of the altar.

Next weekend, the Comboni Sisters will speak to us about their founding Saint, Daniel Comboni. We are so blessed to have the sisters with us in our Pastorate. We can all celebrate this great religious order together. We also will have our annual Parish financial report next weekend.

The weekend of October 16th and 17th is a very busy one. We will bless new bricks for our beautiful labyrinth during a prayer service at 4 PM (before the 5 PM Mass) and Anointing of the Sick will be available that weekend during each Mass. Additionally, we will have information in the pews about our GiveCentral online giving program and an opportunity to pray about how we can all continue to support the good work of our parishes financially. The biggest thing going on that weekend will be the opening of the Synod process for our Catholic Church. There is much more than I can possibly write about in this pastor’s letter but suffice it to say we are embarking on an adventure together with the Universal Church around the world, guided by the Holy Spirit, in deep listening to all people.

That same weekend of the 16th and 17th we will have a survey available to gather some feedback about our weekend Mass schedule. We will have that survey available online and in the pews. We really do hope to hear from you. We will then gather for a town hall listening session on Sunday the 31st to talk together about the situation of having three Masses in two churches with 1 priest, and the problems and possibilities that presents.

God bless you and love you now and always,

Fr. Matt

Mass Times for Our Community

From the beginning of the pandemic through the transition to a new pastor, our community has been through a lot.  Our faith and our unity have been our strength.  As we start to come back together to worship, we hope our new trial Mass schedule with help us grow in faith and unity.  We wanted a Mass schedule that makes it possible for Fr. Matt and Deacon Paul to be able to celebrate with us.  We also want to emphasize that we are one Pastorate, one community, with two beautiful worship sites where all are welcome!

Our new schedule is:

  • Saturday:  Confessions at 3 PM and Mass at 5 PM (Saint Matthew)
  • Sunday:  Mass at 9 AM (Saint Matthew) and 11 AM (Blessed Sacrament)

One Sunday Mass will still be livestreamed; the 1st and very last Sundays from Blessed Sacrament and the other Sundays from Saint Matthew.

We hope to continue this schedule for a while and then evaluate again how it is working as a Pastorate community going forward.  Hope to see you at our vigil Mass or the early or late Mass at either of our beautiful Parishes – all are welcome!
